About Earthquake Notifications Maps
Earthquake - Notifications and Maps is an application produced to promote a conscious use of smartphones and based entirely on Open Data.
You can support the development of the project by downloading the app.
We update our app every few weeks.
> This app provides push notification about events when are available.
> Use this app to check the level of seismicity of the town you are interested.
> The data presented in the app are distributed by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology as regards seismic events, are in the public domain and in the Official Gazette regarding the classification of italian municipalities in the seismic area of reference.
> The database contains over 31,000 events in Italy, the world and the Mediterranean from 1985 to today. Every day the list is updated.
> From the list of municipalities you can access the list of all the events that occurred in the province to which the selected municipality belongs, ordered from the most recent to the most remote.
> From the list of events you can access the list of notified events in which you also find the events happening in the rest of the world, if the recorded magnitude is greater than 6.0 of Magnitude Richter also called Local Magnitude (ML).
> Each municipality Italian is assigned to a classified area to level of seismicity.
> The data presented are in the public domain and are relative the italian municipalities.
> The planned areas are:
>>> Zone 1 - This is the most dangerous area. They may experience strong earthquakes;
>>> Zone 2 - In this area you may experience strong earthquakes;
>>> Zone 3 - In this area you may experience strong earthquakes but rare;
>>> Zone 4 - And 'the least dangerous area. Earthquakes are rare.

*** Critical alerts
In this version we have implemented the new functionality introduced by Apple for devices with iOS 12 and later.
These are important notifications that - if authorized by the user - are shown even if the iPhone is in "Do Not Disturb" mode.
A notification belonging to this category is shown with a particular layout and also always emits a sound.
In the general settings of the iPhone related to the notifications of the app you will find two distinct sections: the first allows you to enable and disable the Critical Alerts type notifications, the second allows you to enable and disable normal push notifications.
4 different configurations are possible:
1) Critical Alerts = Enabled Notifications = Enabled
2) Critical Alerts = Enabled Notifications = Disabled
3) Critical Alerts = Disabled Notifications = Enabled
4) Critical Alerts = Disabled Notifications = Disabled
These configurations give rise to 4 different behaviours regarding the receipt of notifications.
In case 1 you will receive all the notifications sent, all events with magnitude> = 2.5 will be notified
In case 2 you will receive only some notifications, only the events with magnitude> = 4.0 will be notified
In case 3 you will receive all the notifications sent, all the events reported starting from magnitude> = 2.5 will be notified, the difference in this configuration compared to case 1 concerns the fact that if the phone is in "Do Not Disturb" mode and with the silent ringtone will not receive notifications.
In case 4 you will not receive notifications.
This implementation allows you to choose the mode best suited to your habits.
From the General Settings in the notifications section dedicated to the app you can change the choice at any time.
*** UTC time
The timing of the events has been standardized throughout the app. We have chosen to set the time of the event to UTC (Universal Time Coordinated).
This is the international reference time which also corresponds to the GMT (Greenwich Mean Time).
The time of the events regarding earthquakes that occurred in Italy will be out of phase of one or two hours depending on the period of the year.
In Italy during the summer (when the "legal" time is in force from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October) the time is 2 hours ahead of UTC, while in winter (when the time is set "Solar" which is in effect from the last Sunday of October to the last Sunday of March) the time is 1 hour ahead of UTC.
*** In App URL
In the info section the method of opening web pages within the app has been implemented to allow a more homogeneous browsing experience.
From the Info page it is possible to access the INGV blog on which new articles are constantly published by scientists and volcanologists working at the Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology.
*** BugFix
Improvements that affect the performance and battery consumption of your iPhone.
We have kept the price of the app unchanged and we remind you that this app is financed exclusively with the proceeds from the sales.
Thank you all for the esteem and the many suggestions we have received.
