Element X is the future Element.
It is the brand new, and fastest ever, Matrix client. It is for personal and community use, and will support enterprise functionality later this year.
A complete new build, Element X transforms performance. It’s not just the fastest Matrix client, it’s also fresher and more reliable.
It’s so fast for a number of reasons, but in particular we’ve introduced a completely new synching service (‘sliding sync’). So even in big end-to-end encrypted chat rooms it operates incredibly quickly.
It’s fresher because we’ve rebuilt the entire user experience. All the power of Matrix - and the complexity of decentralized end-to-end encryption - is now hidden under a beautiful and intuitive user interface using the very latest frameworks and accessibility features.
Element X delivers speed, usability and reliability on the decentralized Matrix open standard.
Own your data
Matrix-based, Element X lets you self-host your data or choose from any free public server (the default is matrix.org, but there are plenty of others to choose from). However you host, you have ownership; it’s your data. You’re not the product. You’re in control.
Interoperate natively
Enjoy the freedom of the Matrix open standard! You have native interoperability with any other Matrix-based app. So just like email, it doesn't matter if your friends are on a different Matrix-based app you can still connect and chat.
Encrypt your data
Enjoy your right to private conversations - free from data mining, ads and all the rest of it - and stay secure. Only the people in your conversation can read your messages. And Element X E2EE applies to voice and video calls too.

Great news everyone!
Element X has finally dropped some great new quality of life features:
- Is now possible to mark a room as favourite, so that you can now keep track of the groups and the people you like to chat with the most!
- If you have accidentally read a room, and you want to come back at it and read it later, but you fear you might forget to do so, no worries! Now you can mark a room as unread, allowing you to treat as any room with unread notifications.
- At the same time, if you feel a room is not giving anything interesting new to read, but you don't want the green badge on it, just mark it as read, just like you would do with any uninteresting email you just received.
However these three amazing features are now also supported by another amazing quality of life feature, which is... *drum roll* ..filters!
Is now possible to filter the room list by DMs (People), groups (Rooms), favourites, and unread, and any combination of these, to allow at any moment to customise the content of your room list, and filter out any unwanted noise!

In this release we've improved how your homeserver identifies the latest iPhones and Mac and made the errors more helpful when first configuring a homeserver to use with Element X. Plus tapping on your avatar in the Home Screen will go straight to the settings screen.

• Typing indicators have arrived!
• The room member list now indicates who the admins and moderators are.
• You can long press on a link to copy just the link instead of the entire message (plus there's a neat little preview too!)
• The Emoji descriptions shown whilst verifying a new device are now translated.
• The message composer no longer forgets your message when rotating your phone or multi-tasking on iPad.
• Banned members will be displayed in the members list for a room.

In this new release, alongside some bug fixes we introduced an advanced setting that lets you become "invisible". Putting you in control of your privacy, turning off read receipts allows you to read through a room without other members noticing.

We’re all loving Element X round here, but sometimes we’ve found ourselves sat staring at a conversation, helplessly wondering “Have they seen this yet? Its important! When will they reply?” Well those days are over with the release of version 1.4.2 which sprinkles our familiar Read Receipt avatars throughout your conversations. Other highlights include:
• Writing messages using dictation now works as expected without falling to pieces on you.
• We have many shiny new icons waiting for you to discover throughout the app.
• Message actions are now discoverable when using VoiceOver.
Also, for anyone who likes to run their phone in Light Mode but wants to keep Element in Dark Mode, there’s a toggle in Advanced Settings that was designed just for you!

Its been 3-weeks in the making, Element X version 1.2.8 is finally here! User avatars have been given a fresh lick of paint, the Start Chat button is now always visible at the top of the home screen and we’ve made plenty of improvements from fixing crashes when muting notifications to correcting some confusing VoiceOver descriptions.
