About Famagusta Beaches
Discovering Cyprus presents the 44 beaches and coastline areas of interest found in the free Famagusta District. Starting from the picturesque church at Agia Thekla, on the outskirts of Agia Napa and ending at ‘The Scouts Beach’ in Protaras, you can discover:
* Blue Flag beaches, isolated coves, the finest sand and the bluest waters
* The critically endangered Monachus monachus seal and the largest hard-shelled turtle, Caretta caretta
* Food and drink by the beach and picnic grounds
* Beaches ideal for children and disabled people
* Water-sports facilities and best spots for snorkeling and fishing
* Footpaths to ‘walk on the sea’ and interesting places to explore
* Chapels by the sea
* Map of all beaches and written directions how to access all beaches by car, bus or bicycle
* Lots of beach tips such as what local fish to eat, what happens if you drink salt water and where to see the most beautiful sunsets.
* The app gives the user the ability to choose a beach according to his or her preferences through a filtering option. So one may choose to find which beaches are sandy, appropriate for children, with lifeguard and umbrella and sunbed services, while others may choose beaches which are romantic, without watersports and with few visitors or beaches which have full disabled access etc. etc.
* All content has been written from first-hand experience.
The European Environment Agency (www.eea.europa.eu) assesses yearly the bathing water quality at more than 21,000 bathing sites in all 27 EU Member States. The analysis covers mainly microbiological indicators that may lead to water pollution such as Escherichia Coli and other intestinal enterococci. In the Agency’s last report (2013), Cyprus is proud to have 100% compliance with the guide values and is the only country to achieve such as high rating.
Our aim is to give you the best and richest experience at the beaches and coastline of the Famagusta District. At the same time we know that there is room for improvement, there always is. So please provide us with your feedback at admin@discoveringcyprus.com
We are very proud of our seas and we trust that with the help of this guide you will feel the same!
A book version of the app containing high resolution photos and all script can be found in local kiosks and bookstores.
