About Field Guide to South Australian Fauna

Learn more about the biodiversity of South Australia. See detailed descriptions of many of South Australia’s mammals, reptiles, birds, insects and marine life combined with stunning images and sounds.

The content has been developed by scientists from the South Australian Museum in cooperation with other museums around the country. You will find descriptions of hundreds of species, including birds, fishes, lizards, snakes, mammals, marine invertebrates, spiders, snails, slugs, butterflies, moths and other insects.

This is still only a portion of the complete faunal record of South Australia, so our team will continue to add new species and refine descriptions. Take note that the app can be used without an internet connection once downloaded.

This app is one of a suite of field guides for each state and territory, developed by Australia’s leading natural history museums.
