About Germany Cycling Map
Let's face some facts about cycling in the three largest cities of Germany.
Berlin is well known for its highly developed bicycle lane system. It is estimated that Berlin has 710 bicycles per 1000 residents. Cyclists have access to 620 km of bicycle paths including approximately 150 km of mandatory bicycle paths, 190 km of off-road bicycle routes, 60 km of bicycle lanes on roads, 70 km of shared bus lanes which are also open to cyclists, 100 km of combined pedestrian/bike paths and 50 km of marked bicycle lanes on roadside pavements (or sidewalks).
Hamburg is noted for several festivals and regular events. Regular sports events - some open to pro and amateur participants - are the cycling competition Vattenfall Cyclassics, the Hamburg Marathon, the biggest marathon in Germany after Berlin. The triathlon ITU World Cup event Hamburg City Man is also held in here.
Cycling is recognised as a good alternative to motorised transport and the growing numbers of bicycle lanes are widely used throughout the year. A modern bike hire system is available within the area bounded by the Mittlerer Ring. Munich, the third largest city in Germany, after Berlin and Hamburg, is the city we are talking about.
