About Heritage Civil War Tour
This driving tour will take you to many of the historic sites around Sandy Springs and reveal the story of that turbulent time in the summer of 1864, when Union General William T. Sherman unleashed his Army to cross the Chattahoochee River to take the City of Atlanta.
The tour will take you from tranquil National Parks along the Chattahoochee to the bustle of Downtown Sandy Springs, where along the way you will discover historical homes, intact earthworks, ancient fishing dams and memorable stories of men fighting there way across the countryside.
Heritage Sandy Springs is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the historic and cultural identity of Sandy Springs. Through a public/private partnership with the City of Sandy Springs, Heritage Sandy Springs manages and operates the Heritage Green park site in the heart of the City. Heritage Green is the home of the original springs, the Sandy Springs Society Entertainment Lawn, the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum at the Williams-Payne House and our newly renovated office building on Bluestone Road. Heritage Green is one of the few precious green spaces within the city limits of our vibrant community and the only gathering spot in the heart of Sandy Springs. Heritage Sandy Springs wants the space to be a "people's park" that will enrich the quality of life for Sandy Springs residents and visitors through recreational, historical and educational opportunities.
