Mar 4, 2024
And we're back! Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last... has it really been 7 months?!? That's crazy! Apparently time flies when you’re working on other aspects of the business and taking family vacations! Now on to today's update:

• We've updated the field history feature to work with more field types including passwords, one-time passwords, and all custom fields. Each field's history is also now limited to the 10 most recent values to prevent unlimited data growth. Special thanks to Hans O. for prompting these improvements.

• We've added a "Copy Secret Key" menu option for one-time password fields so you can now easily access the secret key on both current, and previous, one-time passwords.

• We've fixed an issue where AutoFill credentials were not being ordered correctly while using Minimalist AutoFill. Special thanks to Tim S. for pointing this out.

• We've fixed a silly little bug where newly created items were not being selected in list when saving via the command-S keyboard shortcut. Oops! Special thanks to Robert B. for the heads up.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few days! Today's update introduces our new Family purchase option, fixes a few annoying bugs, and adds some highly requested keyboard shortcuts. Let's discuss!

• Introducing our new Family purchase option! This option enables Unlimited Editing for up to 6 family members via Apple Family Sharing. Each family member gets their own private Minimalist data, securely synced via their own iCloud account. Learn more about Apple Family Sharing at https://support.apple.com/HT201060 .

• We've fixed an issue which prevented newly added items from being selected in the list, as well as another issue where the incorrect item would be selected in the list after archiving or moving and item to the trash. What can we say, software is hard! Special thanks to Robert B. for pointing these out.

• We've added a few keyboard shortcuts to make navigating Minimalist a little easier. You can now Favorite or Unfavorite selected items with shift-command-F. You can also cancel or "use" a generated password from the password generator popover by typing Esc or Return. We've also prevented command-delete from deleting the selected item while editing, which was admittedly a bug. Special thanks to Robert B. for bringing these to our attention.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!
3.4.2

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few months! Today's update includes a few security and performance improvements which we are pretty excited about. Let's discuss!

• Minimalist will now tell pasteboard applications like TextExpander, Butler, Keyboard Maestro, and others, to conceal sensitive information like passwords and PINs according to the standards outlined at nspasteboard.org! This is a major security win which we previously were unaware of. Special thanks to Nick S. and Scott F. for pointing us in the right direction.

• We've fixed an issue which caused Minimalist and Minimalist AutoFill to lock unexpectedly under certain circumstances. It didn't always happen, but it happened enough to be annoying! Special thanks to Jake T. for helping identify the cause.

• We've removed from the welcome screens all references to a certain purchase option which is no longer available. Apparently we forgot to update these screens when the option was removed a few versions ago. Apologies to everyone who felt confused, mislead, or annoyed by this mistake. And special thanks to all those who wrote in to tell us about it.

• Speaking of purchase options, we've completely rebuilt the purchase system using Apple's latest StoreKit APIs to make managing purchases faster, easier, and more reliable than ever! Everything should be much smoother now, including initial purchases, purchase transferring between devices, automatic renewal of subscriptions, and more.

• Lastly we've made some minor performance improvements regarding item selection. These improvements are pretty small, but hey every bit counts!

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!
3.4.1
Feb 25, 2023
Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few months! Today's update address another round of relatively minor issues which were annoying us to no end. Let's discuss!

• We've reverted the quick-action behavior on touch devices so that a single tap shows the menu rather than triggering the quick-action. Long pressing still shows the menu and allows for drag-and-drop to copy, we've just disabled the quick-action. We apologize for going back and forth on this, we just couldn't stand the quick-action behavior on touch devices.

• We've fixed yet another Tag filtering issue where partial matches where being included, this time partial matches at the end of the Tag. Hopefully we've got this sorted out for good this time around!

• We've added the ability to clear locally cached data and re-sync from iCloud in the event of a syncing glitch. This doesn't come up very often, but when it does it's really nice to have a built-in one-click solution to resolve it.

• We've updated the pricing screen to more accurately display the amount saved by going with the annual pricing over monthly pricing regardless of the region or currency. Special thanks to Tom R. for pointing out the flaw in our previous approach.

• We've added the ability to import items from Remembear and Keeper. Special thanks to Tom F. and Herbert S. for helping us get these added.

• We've updated the format for 8-digit one-time passwords to use a 4 - 4 spacing such as "1234 5678". It' much easier to read now. Special thanks to Matt K. for the suggestion.

• Lastly we've fixed a bug we inadvertently introduced a few versions ago where editing was not being limited to the first 10 items in free mode as the bottom banner would suggest. This was very confusing for many people and not terribly good for our business, so we've corrected it. For everyone who has been enjoying this "feature", please consider it to have been a kind of "extended free trial" which has now come to an end. Thanks for understanding!

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few weeks! Today's update addresses a number of smaller issues and annoyances which we're happy to be rid of! Let's discuss!

• We've fixed an issue where filtering by Tag would include partial matches. For example, filtering by "App" would include "Apple" tags. Special thanks to Dario F. for reporting.

• We've fixed an issue where spaces included in website and url fields would cause the Open-in-browser action to fail. Special thanks to Feek for reporting this.

• Notes fields are now included in search by default, but can of course be changed in settings if you'd like. Special thanks to AS for pushing us over the edge on this one.

• Minimalist will now keep a history of custom password and PIN fields, in addition to the standard password field. Special thanks to Jadon B. and Scott F. for the push.

• We've added two new categories under the Software group, API Credential and SSH Key. Special thanks to Jean-François G. for the request.

• We've added a new Never option to the timer-based-auto-lock setting. Special thanks to Ronald Y. for the request.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few weeks, and the last few years! Today's update addresses some long-standing weaknesses of Minimalist which we have been dying to resolve! We’re happy to announce the wait is over! Let's discuss!

• Multiple Selection! You can now select multiple items in the items list, bring up a context menu, and perform an action on all selected items! Favorite, archive, move to trash, restore, they're all included! All standard keyboard combinations and shortcuts work as expected. Shift-up/down, command-tap/click, command-a, and so on. It's glorious! Special thanks to Feek, Édouard P., Greg R., and the countless others who have requested this over the years.

• A brand new Filter Menu! We've completely rebuild the filter menu using Apple’s standard menu system. This allowed us to include far more options than before because we can now use sub-menus! You can now filter by favorites, category group, individual category, tags, safe-for-inspection items, archived items, and trashed items. Now wouldn't this be a great place to put sorting options...

• Introducing Sorting Options!!! You can now sort items by title, date last edited, and date added, ascending or descending! You can find the sorting options in the new filter menu under "Sort By". Special thanks to Utpal I., Ales, Kevin Y., and the many others who reached out to us about this.

• Finally, we've made a number of smaller improvements such as the ability to delete an item's password history, correcting the steps to enable Minimalist AutoFill on newer platforms, and fixing a bug which prevented menu commands from working under some conditions. Special thanks to GJ, Ethan K., and Ashlean S. for the suggestions and bug reports.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few weeks! Today's update is all about improving existing features, fixing bugs, and preparing for the future! Let's discuss.

• We've completely re-build quick-actions and context-menus using Apple's latest APIs, allowing us to bring all quick-action and context-menu features to all platforms! Quick-actions are now performed with single tap or click, context-menus are now presented with a long-press or right-click, and quick-action-overlays are now shown on hover whenever a pointer device is present. As part of this change, we drastically reduced the amount of code required to present context-menus, meaning there are far less places for bugs to hide! Hurray!

• Minimalist is now ready for the next generation of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS! We've updated text throughout the app to match current naming conventions, fixed bugs related to system changes, and updated context-menus to use Apple's latest APIs to ensure compatibility on all platforms. Special thanks to Iiro J. and Adam N. for bringing the context-menu issues to our attention.

• You can now copy attachments from Minimalist to other locations using drag-and-drop! Wait... what?!? You mean we couldn't do that already? No, unfortunately when we originally added drag-and-drop support we couldn't figure out how to support attachments because they are still encrypted at the time the drag starts. We knew it was possible, but it wasn't immediately obvious to us how to do it. So we took some time, figured it out, and now, finally, dragging attachments works just as you would expect. Phew! That feels much better.

• Importing and exporting has been improved as well. You can now import data from Elpass and export data to Apple's iCloud Keychain (Safari) CSV format! No more Minimalist lock-in! We've also fixed a number of bugs in the 1Password 1PUX importer which were causing the import to fail with the errors such as "the file couldn’t be saved because a file with the same name already exists", "encountedUnexpectedFieldValueKeys(keys: "")", and "sshKey expected to decode String but found a dictionary instead". Special thanks to Steve B., Nick, Rick McC., Chase M., Justin T., and 韓老師 for the suggestions and bug reports!

• Apparently Minimalist has included a bug for many months where changes made to the "While Minimalist is open, automatically lock after a period of inactivity" setting did not take effect until after the app had been quit and re-opened. We didn't notice this in testing because we quit and re-open the app many times each day. Oops! We've corrected the problem and the changes now go into effect immediately. Special thanks to David W. for helping us discover the issue.

• Finally, we've improved the Sync Status Indicator to show more information when a sync fails including what error caused the failure, and steps to resolve the issue where possible. Special thanks to Andrea E. for helping us with this one.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

3.1.2
Jul 24, 2022
Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few weeks! Today's update is a relatively minor one, but hey, every bit counts! Let's discuss.

• Minimalist has always had the ability to re-order custom fields within custom sections, however there was no way to re-order the sections themselves. That is until now! You can now re-order entire sections by selecting "Re-order Sections" from the context menu next to a custom section's title. Special thanks to Édouard P. and Jadon B. for encouraging us to work on this.

• We've updated the one-time password generator to support the arbitrary values for the period parameter when using the OTP url scheme as a secret. We had mistakenly thought that only values of 15, 30, and 60 were valid, however it turns out there are services which use arbitrary values such as 7 or 10. Oops! Our bad! In any event, Minimalist will now generate the correct one-time passwords in even more situations! Special thanks again to James C. for bringing this to our attention.

• Importing data into Minimalist has been improved as well. You can now import data from Secrets, Avira, and the latest version of mSecure. We've also improved the 1Password 1PIF importer to correctly put items in the archive as indicated. Special thanks to Tom E., Giovanni V., and Yariv N. for making these suggestions.

• We've fixed an issue where the "Show as Subtitle" command would not work under some circumstances. Special thanks to Jadon B. for pointing this out.

• Finally, we've attempted to fix a really annoying layout issue which caused the action buttons at the bottom of an item's details to be the wrong height. Sometimes they were way too tall, and sometimes they were so squished the labels were no longer readable. We can't be 100% sure it's corrected, but we haven't seen it even once during testing so it’s looking promising! Special thanks to Jadon B. for encouraging us to look at this again.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

Jun 18, 2022
Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few weeks! Today's update is all about the little things that make a big difference! Let's discuss.

• A few versions ago we inadvertently introduced a performance issue which made virtually EVERYTHING slower. Amazingly not single person complained! Still, it's been driving us crazy!!! Well, we've found the culprit and have corrected it. Minimalist is now blazingly fast once again!

• Apple recently made a small change to how AutoFill extensions work which unfortunately caused a number of issues for Minimalist AutoFill. We thought we had caught them all, but apparently a few snuck by. This release fixes an issue where the "keep unlocked for a period of time" setting was not being respected when using Minimalist AutoFill. We've also fixed an issue where using the enter/return key to select a login item in Minimalist AutoFill sometimes triggered an infinite loop as if the enter/return key was being repeated pressed, over and over again, forever. Special thanks to Feek for helping us identify and fix these issues.

• We've updated the one-time password generator to support the digits=7 parameter when using the otp url scheme as a secret. Use of this configuration is pretty rare, so please don't worry if you're not familiar with these terms or concepts, you can safely ignore them. The bottom line is Minimalist will now generate the correct one-time passwords in even more situations! Special thanks to James C. for requesting this.

• Importing data into Minimalist has been improved as well. You can now import data from DataVault (by Ascendo). We've also improved the Passwords Plus importer to attempt to import username and password data into the standard login fields where possible. Special thanks to Kay W., Dwight K., and John K. for making these suggestions.

• Finally, we've made a number of small usability improvements such as preventing the password generator popover from dismissing when the background is touched by accident, adding an Open in Browser option to the context menu for items in the list, adding instructions for disabling Minimalist AutoFill in the associated settings screen, and updating email handling to support non-Apple email apps such as HEY. Special thanks to Rishabh D., Wayne R., and Andrew C. for these suggestions.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few weeks! Today's update resolves a few minor issues and adds a few important features! Let's dive in!

• To start, let's talk about importing data from other apps. We've fixed an issue with the 1Password 1PUX importer which prevented some attachments from being imported, and sometimes prevent the import from completing at all. We've also updated the iCloud Keychain (Safari) CSV importer to match the new the column labels. Finally we've added support for importing from Passwords Plus CSV files. Special thanks to David M., ultradjgirl, and John K. for helping us with these.

• Recently we added some security improvements to Minimalist. This included a requirement that your Master Password be used to unlock Minimalist after a device restart. While many people welcome the change, a number of people have expressed frustration with it. Not to worry, this feature can now be disabled under Authentication & Security -> "After this device has been restarted". Special thanks to everyone who wrote in about this.

• We've improved the handling of backup files stored inside iCloud Drive folders. Minimalist will now properly handle files which are technically present in iCloud Drive, but have not yet been downloaded to the device. Special thanks the Brad V. for pointing this out.

• We've seriously increased the number of custom sections and fields each item in Minimalist can have. It's now up to 52 sections, and a whopping 130 fields! Hopefully this will be enough! Special thanks to Aaron P. for pushing the envelope of what Minimalist can handle!

*** And now for something new ***

• Minimalist now supports "favorites"! You can mark an item as "favorite" then select the "Favorites" category to see all your favorites. Special thanks to E. Soto, Aaron P., Akos K., Tim S., Chase M., Claude B., and the many, many others who have requested this over the last few years. You know who you are!

• Last but not least, we've added something new called "Safe for Inspection Mode"! This is for situations such as border crossings or entering government agencies where you may be asked to present your Minimalist data for inspection and only want certain items to be visible. Learn more under Settings -> Safe For Inspection Mode. Special thanks to Artem T. for helping us with this.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

May 5, 2022
Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few weeks! Today's update addresses a few relatively minor issues and adds a few relatively minor features. But hey, it's the little things that count!

• We've fixed an issue which, in extremely rare cases, caused Minimalist to crash on launch due to corrupt data having made its way into a person's account. Minimalist will now happily ignore the corrupted data so you can continue accessing your account and perform backups and exports. Special thanks to Jonas K. for working with us to identify this issue.

• We've fixed an issue with the 1Password 1PIF importer which prevented specific attachment data from being imported when the same filename was attached to multiple items. This was a silly oversight on our part which has been remedied. Special thanks to Lazar J. and Alexander B. for helping us identify this issue.

• We've fixed another issue with the 1Password 1PIF importer which improperly handled additional websites by putting them into a custom section rather than adding them to the "additional websites" field. Special thanks to Feek for helping us sort this out.

• We've added support for importing from 1Password's 1PUX format! Perfect for everyone looking to migrate from 1Password 8 for Mac. Special thanks to Chase M., David M., and Michael S. for pushing us to get on this!

• We've fixed an issue with the Enpass importer where items created with custom templates would cause the import to fail. This was a simple oversight on our part which has been resolved. Special thanks to Aaron P. for helping us determine the issue.

• We've added a new setting under Item Details which lets you select a default username to use for new login items. This is of course optional, but is very convenient if you generally use the same email address for all your online accounts. Special thanks to Daryl J. for helping us see the need for this.

• We've fixed an issue where drag-and-dropping credit card numbers and one time passwords would not remove the formatting spaces between the numbers. This often resulted in form fields rejecting or truncating the copied numbers. Minimalist now correctly removes the formatting spaces. Special thanks to Dario F. and G. Saez for bringing this to our attention.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback on last week's update! It was great to hear how much you all enjoyed it! However it was slightly less great to hear about some of the bugs you encountered. Today's update remedies this situation and fixes as many bugs as we could find! Let's dive in!

• Let's start with the big one. We've fixed an issue related to our use of the Secure Enclave which prevented Face ID, Touch ID, and Unlock with Apple Watch from working properly under rare circumstances. We apologize for any inconvenience this caused. Going forward this will not be an issue as we've learned our lesson; respect the Secure Enclave! Special thanks to Paul R. for helping us identify this issue.

• Now let's talk about Minimalist AutoFill. It turns out there was a small change to the way the Apple's AutoFill system works which caused all kinds of strange behaviors and bugs with Minimalist AutoFill. We apologize for not noticing earlier! We've updated Minimalist AutoFill and it’s now behaving normally again. Special thanks to Hanna H. and Arden Sinclair for reporting these issues.

• Next up we've fixed two separate issues which under rare circumstances caused Minimalist to crash while importing 1pif files. Luckily this seems to have been quite rare and only affected a few people. Special thanks to John D., Jeffery T., and Camilla D. for reporting these issues.

• Wouldn't it be great if Minimalist automatically selected the search bar after being unlocked on Mac? Well that's how Minimalist was supposed to work all along! And now it does! Special thanks to Feek for pointing this out.

• Apparently the clipboard auto-clear feature was a little too good at clearing things from the clipboard, even when it wasn't supposed to! Oops, our bad! We've made some adjustments and it's working correctly again. Special thanks Joel K. for reporting this and helping us figure out exactly what was happening here!

• As usual there are other small improvements such as the ability to add tags to items being imported, the addition of Open in Browser keyboard shortcuts, selecting a sensible default location when choosing the backup folder, and replacing the last word of "memorable" generated passwords with a 3-digit number to get past the password police! Special thanks to Édouard P., Feek, Ria, and Mitch W. for suggesting these.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!

Thanks to everyone who has sent in feedback over the last few years! Today's update attempts to address as many of these requests as we could possibly fit into a single release. Let's dive in!

• First up, Automatic Encrypted Backups! Minimalist can now automatically perform encrypted backups at specified intervals. You choose both the location and interval, as well as how many old backups Minimalist should keep at any given time. You'll be prompted to setup Automatic Backups on first launch, then can make additional changes under Settings -> Backup & Restore. Special thanks to Bill P., Larry M., Feek, Craig H., David N., Scott S., Artem T., Scott F., C. J., Lorraine M., and Javier M. for encouraging us to work on this.

• Next up, the Password Generator! We've expanded the capitalization options to include "One random letter". We've lowered the minimum number of digits to four when generating PINs. We've added an option to show the password generator in-line below password fields! Enable under Settings -> Item Details -> "When editing passwords...". Special thanks to Scott F. for working with us to get this right.

• Next up, Window Pinning! We've added a "pin" button to the window title bar which allows Minimalist to "float" above other windows while not in the foreground. This is especially useful on smaller screens where windows often overlap and many clicks are required to manually copy/paste between Minimalist and other apps. Special thanks to Eric I., Fredrik L., William G., Nicholas S., and Aman C. for helping us understand the need for this feature. Now if only we could drag-and-drop fields to copy the values...

• Introducing Drag-and-Drop to copy! You can now simply drag a field to copy its value to virtually anywhere else in the system, including other apps! Special thanks to Cortney T., Dan H., Gustavo S., and Phoenix Fox for encouraging us to prioritize this feature.

• Announcing our migration to Apple's CryptoKit! Up until now Minimalist has used the open-source CryptoSwift framework for all cryptographic functions. Going forward Minimalist will be performing all cryptographic functions using Apple's CryptoKit framework already built into macOS and iOS. The end result is increased security, better performance, and eventually a smaller app size!

• We've made some additional security improvements as well. Minimalist will now require your Master Password after a device restart, and optionally after a time interval of your choosing; hourly, daily, or weekly. The Secure Enclave is now being used to effectively "double" encrypt data stored in the local Keychain such as encryption keys, security settings, etc. so your Minimalist data remains safe even if your Keychain is somehow compromised. Special thanks to Chris J., Aman C, Keaton S., and Yuuta K. for encouraging these changes.

• We Stand With Ukraine. In light of the atrocities being committed against the people of Ukraine, we have temporarily removed all limitations from the free version of Minimalist for people inside Ukraine, and for our friends inside Russia and Belarus who actively oppose the war and need protection from their own government. Learn more at https://minimalistpassword.com/help-ukraine-now .

• We've also added quite a few smaller improvements and bug fixes, however we're almost out of space for these release notes so we'll just say thank you to Scott F., Nicholas S., Kevin K., Nghi, Édouard P., Matt M., Bennani Z., Evan J., and Adam U. for your feature suggestions and bug reports!

• Last, but certainly not least, we've added an "Honorable Mentions" section to the Minimalist screen inside the Settings app on iOS, and to the "About Minimalist" window on macOS. We're incredibly grateful to you all for your contributions over the last few years. Take a look and please let us know if you'd like your name modified, removed, or your country's flag added!

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there is more to come!
2.9.9

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback on last week's update! We're thrilled to hear how much you're enjoying it! Today's update continues the trend of "quality-of-life" improvements and adds two hotly requested new features! Let's dive in!

• We're glad people are enjoying the newly rebuilt Large Viewer, but we've been told the layout is sometimes off and the character position numbers can be distracting. Well good news folks, we've fix the layout issues and you can now choose how the character position numbers are displayed under Settings -> Appearance -> "When using the Large Viewer...". Special thanks to Scott F. for pointing out the layout issues.

• When displaying an item's details, Minimalist automatically conceals passwords, passcodes, and PINs so they can be copied without being visible to anyone else around you. We really like this feature, but we've been told it's not for everyone. Now you can disable the automatic concealing feature under Settings -> Authentication & Security -> "When displaying item details...". Big thanks to efthymisgr, Rick D'A., and Tim S. for requesting this.

• We've added the ability to copy usernames, in addition to passwords and one-time passwords, from various menus throughout the app. Thanks to Nguyet N. for the suggestion.

• As some of you have already discovered, each item in Minimalist has a limited number of custom fields which can be added to it, 26 in fact. Well that number just doubled to 52! Thanks to Artem T. for the suggestion.

*** Hotly Requested New Feature # 1 ***

• Minimalist now has a full-featured password generator! We were thoroughly surprised by how many people requested this feature over the last year. Please let us know what you think and we'll continue refining it over time. Huge thanks to Efthymis T., Hugh M., Steven J., Tarun A., Aman C., Andrew J., Christian K., efthymisgr, Scott F., Diego G., Bill L., Antonio S., James M., June K., and Ragnar V. for helping us understand the need for this feature.

*** Hotly Requested New Feature # 2 ***

• A proper item archive! You can now clean up your item list and AutoFill menu WITHOUT deleting old items. Simply move them to the archive where they will be kept safe and won't participate in AutoFill. Large thanks to Miguel Z., Scott F., efthymisgr, Klaas K., Joao, and Hugh M. for helping us see the benefit of this.

*** An Important Side Note ***

We've decided it's time to get "featured" in the App Store and we need your help! We need as many reviews as possible to let the App Store feature team know how many people love Minimalist. If you haven't done so already, please leave a review now. Do you know someone else using Minimalist? Please ask them to leave a review. Every review counts! Together we can do it!

Thank you very much in advance and we'll talk soon!

Thanks to everyone who sent in feedback over the last few months! Today's update is all about "quality of life" improvements which will make day-to-day use of Minimalist more enjoyable. Let's dive in!

• We've added a new persistent "Forgot Password?" when entering your master password. Big thanks to everyone who wrote in letting us know how badly this was needed.

• You can now press command-U when entering your master password to unlock with Touch ID or Apple Watch (when available).

• Minimalist can now be set to automatically unlock using Touch ID or Apple Watch either only when first opened OR whenever the app become active. Thanks to everyone who requested this!

• We've removed the 20 item limit when searching. We honestly believed the limit was needed to improve performance... it wasn't. Big thanks to Larry M., Neil B., and Vishal N. for encouraging us to revisit this decision.

• You can now choose which fields are included while searching via the new Search & Trash settings screen. p.s. The last option in the list includes the "notes" field! Thanks to Pavel T. and w i n t e r m u t e for recommending this.

• We've added a new Appearance settings screen which lets you customize the look and feel of Minimalist. Would you like to always be in light mode, or dark mode, or match the system? Would you like dark mode to use shades of gray or be completely black? How about font style and size? Want to see more items in the list at once? Go ahead, it's all in there!

• We've completely re-written the Large Viewer to better handle long text, support multiline text, and show character position numbers when displaying passwords! We're pretty impressed with ourselves on this one. It was a lot of fun! Big thanks to Eric I. for helping us see the value in the character position numbers.

• We've fixed a number of issues which could cause a sync to stall until the app was restarted. These stalled syncs should no longer happen, and if they do, they should be resolved automatically within 10 minutes. Thanks to Eden S., Akos K., and everyone else who reported this.

• Importing from Dashlane and 1Password should now be even smoother as we've updated the importers to handle changes in those formats. Also 1Password .1pif exports now include actual attachment data which Minimalist can now import! Thanks to Mike F. for notifying us about the Dashlane format changes.

• We've made "copy" the default action when selecting an email, phone, and address fields. You can of course still select other actions via the menu, but "copy" is now the default. Thanks to Scott f. for helping us realize how much more frequently we want to copy info from Minimalist, rather than start emails or phone calls. You were right!

There are of course many other small improvements and bug fixes... but these release notes are pretty long already and we have things to do! So that's it for now, but stay tuned because there's more to come!

Apparently in our efforts to make passwords a little easier to read, we also made them a little harder to edit! We inadvertently introduced a bug in version 2.9.6 which causes the cursor to jump to the end of the password field every time an edit is made. Oops! Not to worry, today's update corrects this issue and restores password editing tranquility. Ah, that's much better.

Previous release notes:

Thank you very much to everyone who sent in feedback! Today's update is a relatively minor one while we work on larger things, but hey, every bit counts!

• We've added support for importing passwords from iCloud Keychain's new CSV format. You can now easily import your iCloud Keychain passwords using Safari 15.0 or higher.

• We've updated the 1Password importer to properly handle 1Password's new "File" field type. Unfortunately we're still unable import the actual attachment data, but at least it won't crash anymore!

• We've made it easier to choose which field is shown as the subtitle in the item list. Previously you needed to be editing an item in order to see this option in a field's menu. We've changed this so you can now select "Show as Subtitle" without needing to enter edit mode. This makes updating items much faster. Special thanks to Hugh M. for helping with this feature.

• We've made passwords a little easier to read by making numbers, punctuation, and symbols a slightly different color. It's now much easier to differentiate between similar looking characters. Special thanks to Rick M. and Eric I. for selling us on this idea.

• Did you know Minimalist automatically deletes trashed items after 30 days? Well neither did a bunch of other people. That's because we did a terrible job of indicating this in the UI. We've corrected this oversight and now display messages throughout the app to make this feature clear. Special thanks to Scott F. for helping us realize our mistake.

• A few weeks ago we received an anonymous request to add a random-username-generator. At first we didn't really understand the request. Why would we want random usernames? Our anonymous requestor then explained, it's to help create "masked email accounts" for situations where you don't want to use your personal email account with some other online account. We were convinced! You can now generate random usernames via the standard username field's menu button, then optionally append a domain to make it an email address. Special thanks to our anonymous requestor!

Thank you very much to everyone who sent in feedback! Today's update is all about small improvements which make a big difference!

• Were you excited to use the new "authentication methods" setting introduced in the last update only to find your preferred method missing? You're not alone. Determining which authentication methods are available on a given device turned out to be more complicated than we originally thought. So we've re-built the detection feature and thoroughly tested it on a number of different devices! Head on over to Settings -> Authentication & Auto-lock and select the authentication method that's right for you! Special thanks to Shane R., Eden, and Andrew J. for reporting this issue.

• We've added the ability to choose which field is shown as the subtitle in the item list. Simply edit an item, select a field's menu button, and select "Show as Subtitle". Note some fields are not eligible like passwords, PINs, OTPs, and attachments. Special thanks to Collier J. and Hugh M. for the suggestion.

• We've improved the grouping and sorting of items in the list. Items will now be properly grouped and sorted even when their title starts with a non-latin character. i.e. Chinese characters, symbols, and even Emoji! Special thanks to Guozhu and Collier J. for highlighting these issues.

• We've moved Rewards Programs from the "Payment Types" group into a new "Loyalty / Rewards" group to make things easier to find. Special thanks to Dave U. for this suggestion.

• We've made the lightest text in Minimalist just a hair darker as it was pretty hard to read. Special thanks to David N. for pointing this out.

• Minimalist periodically reminds you to enter your master password in order to help prevent forgotten master passwords. Unfortunately the previous messaging was a little confusing so we’ve re-written it to be as clear as possible. Special thanks to Larry M. for pointing this out.

• We've added a link to our website's help page in the menu bar, along with some ways to help spread the word about Minimalist! Special thanks to Andrew J. for this suggestion.

Wow! The last few weeks have been incredible! We've received an amazing amount of feedback from people all over the world looking to make Minimalist their next password manager. It has been a truly humbling experience. Thank you... seriously, thank you!

Accordingly we've been hard at work answering emails, updating the website, and coding like crazy! Today's update includes as many feature requests and bug fixes as we could possibly fit into this relatively short time. Fear not if your request didn't make it into this update, we'll try to get it into the next!

Here's what's new today:

• Choose which authentication methods are available when unlocking Minimalist. Special thanks to Share R. and Chris J.

• Minimalist now correctly displays one time passwords where the secret key is in the otpauth:// URL format. Special thanks to Eric I., Neil L., Feek, Kris N., Simon M., and Jerry Z.

• Minimalist can now share items in plain-text via email or messaging app. The plain-text also includes a specially formatted "minimalist://share" URL which can be used to quickly import the item into another Minimalist account. Be careful however as this kind of sharing is absolutely NOT secure. Anyone receiving the data can read it. Please be cautious. Special thanks to Emilie C., Bill P., Ben H., and Ryan F.

• Minimalist will now display how many items you have in a given category in the category selection popover. Special thanks to Hugh M., David N.

• Import from Bitwarden, SafeInCloud, or Generic CSV! Special thanks to David M., Pri K., Brian, Tarun A., Craig H., and Vincent B.

• Importing from 1Password now correctly handles multiple website URLs and missing section titles. Special thanks to Feek and Pri K.

• Deleting many custom fields in a row just got easier with the new "Remove & Don't Ask Again" confirmation option. Special thanks to Eric I.

• Minimalist AutoFill now supports filling username-only or password-only sign-in forms... which it really should have done from the beginning. Special thanks to Mike for pointing this out.

• Minimalist now automatically saves in-progress edits when the app quits. This is really a double-edged sword. Maybe you wanted to save but forgot... or maybe you abandoned the edit screen on purpose and didn't want to save... there's just no way to tell! We've opted to err on the side of saving data rather than losing it. Let us know if causes any issues. Special thanks to Emilie C., Bill P., and David N.

• Minimalist no longer crashes when transitioning between Split-View and non-Split-View layouts. Special thanks to Aleksander A.

• Minimalist is now much better at recovering from account resets and syncing errors which could sometimes lead to corrupt data. We'll continue to monitor this situation and make improvements as they become apparent. Special thanks to Henning V. and Shane R.

Thank you again to everyone who sent in feedback. We are truly honoured. Now let's make Minimalist the best password manager available for iPhone, iPad, and Mac!
2.9.3

Thank you very much to everyone who sent in feedback! Today's update is all about small improvements that make a big difference!

• Let's start with Importing. We've fixed an issue that prevented some people from importing from Enpass. We've also made it easier to report these kind of issues with a few taps rather than needing to manually copy/paste error logs. Finally, we've added the ability to import from RoboForm. Big thanks to Steve M. for reporting the Enpass issue and inspiring us to make the other changes.

• Now let's talk about Auto-lock & AutoFill. Minimalist and Minimalist AutoFill will now stay unlocked for 1 minute after being closed by default but can be changed back to "Lock Immediately" in Settings. Minimalist can now stay open for up to 5 hours of inactivity. Big thanks to Scott G., David N. and Larry M for making these suggestions.

• Next up is custom One-Time Password fields! You can now add as many One-Time Passwords as you'd like to any item in Minimalist via the new One-Time Password field type. Big thanks to Cortney T. for the suggestion.

• Next up is the ability to duplicate items! You can now use any item as a template by selecting "Duplicate" then making your changes. Very convenient! Big thanks to Larry M. for the suggestion.

• Next up is a new "last edited" timestamp at the bottom of the details screen. You can now see when an item was last changed. Big thanks to David N. for the suggestion.

• Finally, we've updated the purchase screen to include a new "Help Make Minimalist Even Better" section! You can now easily spread the word about Minimalist so we can keep adding features and improving the app. Check it out in "Settings" -> "Thank You for..."

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there's more to come!
2.9.2
Jun 13, 2021
Thank you very much to everyone who sent in feedback! Today's update is all about the little things... like Automatic Copying of One-Time Passwords while using Minimalist AutoFill!

• Since adding support for One-Time Passwords a few releases ago it's become painfully clear that some kind of AutoFill support was absolutely necessary. Having to manually open Minimalist to manually copy / paste One-Time Passwords was a real pain. Well no longer my friends. Minimalist can now automatically copy One-Time Passwords to the clipboard while using AutoFill. Simply enable the feature inside the app under Settings -> Minimalist AutoFill and using One-Time Passwords will get a whole lot easier! Big thanks to Courtney T., Larry M., and all the others who wrote in to suggest this.

• Now let's talk about syncing. Minimalist syncs all you data with iCloud so you'll never lose your passwords. However there are circumstances where Minimalist is temporarily unable to complete a sync, like when you're offline, or if your iCloud storage is full, or if you've changed iCloud accounts. In these circumstances you may be at risk of losing new or modified data until Minimalist can again successfully sync. So we've added a sync-status-indicator to let you know when there are sync issues. Select the indicator to see more information and resolution steps when possible.

• Next up is type-to-select-items-with-matching-title-prefix... we have to work on this marketing name. This is basically the feature from Finder where typing the first few letters of an item's name selects that item. It's a handy little trick which now works correctly in Minimalist. Big thanks to Bill P. for originally suggesting this feature and to everyone else who rightly pointed out that it was broken. We did it team!

• Here's another great feature with a terrible marketing name, hold-down-the-option-key-to-reveal-hidden-passwords... just terrible. Minimalist hides passwords, passcodes, and PINs behind a mask of dots. You could always show the actual value by selecting the field then selecting "reveal". Now you can simply hold down the Option key to reveal all concealed fields at once. It's the little things that make all the difference! Big thanks to Courtney T. for pushing for this.

• Finally, we've added tons of menu commands, context menus, and keyboard shortcuts throughout the app to make Minimalist even easier to use. Ahh, that's much better!

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there's more to come!

May 29, 2021
Thank you very much to everyone who sent in feedback! Today's update fixes a few pesky bugs which snuck into the last release related to one-time passwords.

• Did you try to use the new one-time password feature only to have Minimalist insist "invalid secret key"? Yeah, so did a bunch of other people. Oops, our bad! The issue here is with the spaces. Spaces are not valid base 32 characters which is how these secret keys are encoded. Many services add spaces to make the keys more human readable. TOTP apps like Minimalist need to remove the spaces before generating the one-time passwords. Minimalist will now correctly remove the spaces before generating one-time passwords. Problem solved! Special thanks to everyone who wrote in to report this!

• On a related note, if you attempted to manually remove the spaces from a OTP secret key you may have noticed the cursor jumping to the end of the text on each keystroke. Well that's no good! This was a very silly mistake which snuck in at the last second before releasing. We've fixed it and editing the secret key now behaves exactly as it should.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there's more to come!

Thank you very much to everyone who sent in feedback! Today's update is all about one-time passwords, improved importing, and a number of quality-of-life enhancements!

• We have received many emails asking when Minimalist would support 2FA one-time passwords. Well the answer is today! Minimalist can now store the secret key provided by an increasing number of websites and services and generate the time-based one-time passwords. Try it out and let us know what you think! Special thanks to Jordi L., Cortney T., Eden, Mitchell W., and many others for encouraging us to add this.

• Wanting to import from Enpass? Now you can! Minimalist now supports importing from Enpass .json files. Thanks much to Alexandre J. for the request!

• We've updated the CSV importers to prevent duplicate entries when importing the same file more than once. Unfortunately this won't those who already have a bunch of duplicates but at least it will save future people from the same fate. Many thanks and apologies to Celeste L. for bearing with us.

• Looking for a way to clear out all those duplicate? Perhaps this will help. The Settings screen now has a "Reset Minimalist" option which permanently deletes all data, from synced all devices, and allows you to start over. Be careful however as this cannot be undone! Big thanks to Bill P. for the suggestion.

• Looking to upgrade from an annual subscription to the one-time purchase option? This turned out to be surprising difficult so we updating the purchase screen to make it much easier. Simply turn off auto-renew on your current subscription to again see the one-time purchase option. Thanks again Larry!

• We've made a number of small improvements to the Item details and edit screens to reduce clutter and make attachments easier to find. Let us know what you think!

• Our good friend Larry M. pointed out an issue where Password Generation settings were not respected when using Minimalist AutoFill. Good catch Larry! We've fix it.

• Last and quite possibly least, a small but noticeable capitalization error made its way into the previous release. We've fixed it. thanks eden... I mean Thanks Eden. ;)

Thank you very much to everyone who sent in feedback! Today's update is all about attachments!

• More than one person has asked "will Minimalist support file attachments?" The answer is yes! As of today Minimalist can attach any kind of file to any kind of item via the new Attachment field type. Attachments are protected via industry standard 256-bit encryption and end-to-end encrypted sync just like everything else in Minimalist. Importing and exporting has also been updated to support attachments where possible (currently limited to Minimalist JSON and CSV). Big thanks to Joseph B., Jordi L., and Sean F for encouraging us to get on this!

• Importing and exporting has received some love as well. The flow and messaging has been updated to make it easier to understand. Progress indicators have been added to indicate how long it's going to take. Attachments are now supported where possible. We've fixed a bug which prevented mSecure imports from importing items of type "Web Login". Big thanks to Celeste L. for reporting issues and being incredibly patient with us! You're a saint!

• Another question we get a lot is "can Minimalist generate longer passwords?" Again the answer is yes! Minimalist can now generate passwords with 14, 19, 24, 39, or 49 characters! Checkout the new Password Generation menu in the Settings screen to choose. Big thanks to Miguel Z., Eden, and Larry M for working with us to get this right.

• Finally we've added a Clipboard menu to the Settings screen so you can set how long to keep copied content on the clipboard before automatically clearing it. Big thanks to Larry M. for suggesting this.

That's it for now, but stay tuned because there's more to come! Hint: one... time... passwords...
