About Satellite Safari

SKY & TELESCOPE HOT PRODUCT 2014!

Satellite Safari is your tour guide to the universe of satellites that humanity has launched into orbit around our home planet.

According to The Mac Observer: "I regard this app as authoritative ... Amateur astronomers, wanting to get a photo of the ISS, could use it to plan the pass. Government and military people could use it for all kinds of planning operations. And teachers, students and even casual users just wanting to learn more about particular satellites could learn a lot ... It would be hard to ask for anything more." See the full review:

The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW) writes: "My tests of the app were positive. No crashes, no surprises... A very cool app." Here's the full review:

You can use Satellite Safari to learn more about the International Space Station and many hundreds of other satellites already in orbit. Satellite Safari will tell you where to find them in the sky, when they'll pass overhead, and where they are orbiting over Earth right now.

Satellite Safari can show you the spacecraft that will pass over your location at any given time. You can even get a "bird's eye view" from a satellite itself, and see the Earth from orbit exactly as the satellite sees it!

Satellite Safari updates its satellite orbit data from celestrak.com automatically every day. All satellites include facts and figures computed for your precise GPS location, and updated every second. Many satellites also include descriptions that give you the mission's history, purpose, and more.

Satellite Safari's simple user interface and super high accuracy make it an invaluable tool for exploring the spacecraft in orbit around our home planet. Please feel free to contact us at www.southernstars.com if you have further questions. We hope you enjoy using Satellite Safari!

1) Completely overhauled user interface for iOS 7, now the base system requirement.
2) New SkyCube toolbar item provides info and updates on the SkyCube satellite mission.
3) Compass support! In Sky view, tilt your device up toward the sky, and follow satellites using its built-in motion-tracking hardware.
4) Apple Maps integration: choose your location from a built-in Maps view, under Settings.
5) In Object Info, swipe left-to-right to toggle between a satellite's data and description (if it has one) on the iPhone. On the iPad, they're still displayed side-by-side.

May 15, 2013
1) Added an "Update Satellite Data" button to the settings which lets you update satellite orbit data on demand.
2) Added an Automatic Daylight Savings Time switch to the Settings. You can down turn of DST if you live in a location (like Arizona) which does not observe it.
3) You can now use iTunes file sharing to add your own User Defined Satellites file to Satellite Safari's database; see the built-in Settings Help for details.

5) Fixed bug where two or more automatic satellite data updates could happen simultaneously, which could result in missing satellites in some categories.
6) Fixed bug where the limiting magnitude label in the main Settings list on iPad wasn't getting updated as you adjusted the satellite limiting magnitude. Maginitude limit slider now always shows Sky view.
7) Fixed spelling mistake in "Satellite-Based Augmentation System". There is now a busy indicator when Tonight's Visual Satellites is first calculated, and results are cached for faster access.
8) Fixed small error in position computation for some geosynchronous satellites.

Apr 23, 2013
1) Almost 10 times as many satellites, and over 1100 satellite descriptions from NSSDC. Updated descriptions for the ISS and HST.

2) New Settings let you display or hide groups of satellites, like all the CubeSats, or all Geostationary Communication Satellites. Iridium, Weather, Science, and Amateur Radio satellites are now shown by default.

3) Ability to set location manually, in addition to using the phone's built-in GPS and Location Services.

4) Added a magnitude limit slider in the Settings for Sky view. Settings also contains a new option to show visible passes only in the Object Info view.

5) Search view is rearranged to let you choose satellites by group. The first group is "tonight's best" satellites, arranged in order of the time they become visible at night.

6) Time Flow controls now have increments of 10 minutes, 1 hour, and 1 day to let you more-easily set the simulated time up to several days in the future.

7) Added ability to display an announcement at startup, and rate the app on the iTunes Store.
