About Whakatau-pōtiki: Te Tūpuhi Nui

On May 7th and 8th, 2015, Ngāti Whātua o Ōrākei collaborated with KIWA and Selwyn College to create a trilogy of interactive digital books over a two day period.

The Ngāti Whātua students listened to an oral retelling of one of their ancestral stories, then reinterpreted the story using text, illustrations, voice recording and sound effects to produce this book.

Part three of the trilogy is Whakatau-pōtiki - Te Tūpuhi Nui, the story of how Whakatau-pōtiki's son Rongomai became an influential leader and feared warrior among the Ngāti Kui people, but soon became the target of assassination. When Whakatau-pōtiki learned of the plot, he planned to exact his own revenge with Te Tūpuhi Nui or The Great Wave...
