What's New in the Latest Version 4.7.1

Last updated on Mar 20, 2024
Old Versions
Fixed an issue with Wrist Temp on the Health iPhone Widget may not show in celsius, also from 4.7.0:

BIG UPDATE!

All New Sleep Coaching! The coaching under sleep has been completely redesigned and is much more comprehensive and will analyze not only sleep duration and performance relative to Target Sleep but also sleep quality. Look for some big new Sleep features coming soon as well!

An all new Restorative Sleep Chart to visualize your Restorative Sleep over time. You will see a checkmark above any day of the week in with your Restorative Sleep time was equal or greater to 33% of your total sleep time. You can tap the chart to change Restorative Sleep time to percentage of total sleep.

A new System Mode in Design Settings where in addition to dark (default) and light modes you can now select System which will match whatever your iPhone is currently set to, including automatic dark/light mode on iPhone.

A new education series, right now you can view these articles at the bottom of Recovery and Exertion but I will be rolling out more soon.

The Health Summary iPhone Widget now includes Wrist Temperature.

Added Stress to the Calendar.

Added Tags for: Cramps, Hot Flashes, Menopause, Percussion Therapy, Stage Performance, and Therapy.

Fixes:
-Fixed an issue with the new Restorative Sleep Chart labels might not render correctly.
-Added some logic to filter out very high speed anomalies.
-Fixed an issue on the sleep tab for users using very large text sizes.
-Fixed an issue where the Watch Target Sleep Widget (aka Complication) might be slightly different than the iPhone.
-Fixed an issue where the rectangular Watch Widgets didn't render colors properly on monochromatic watch faces.
-Some other minor UI tweaks.

Thanks!

Quick update:

-Fixed a bug that might cause cycling and running speeds to be off in the Metric system.
-Fixed a bug that might occur when you would select or delete a tag and it might not show as tagged. (Also if you didn't know, if you go to the More Tab then Notifications, you can add a daily reminder, where Athlytic will remind you to Tag anything that happened yesterday - this is a great way to remember to Tag things!)
-Fixed an issue where navigating away from Cardio Fitness and HRR in Trends might not show any data.
-Redesigned the charts in the Tag Analysis Area (tap on the Tag icon on top right of the home screen).
-The list of Tags you can choose to sort by will only be of Tags you've actually used....not the entire list like it was before!
-In some of the charts in the Trend area, the X Axis labels were improved.
-Fixed a bug where if you added too many Tags you couldn't see the customize button.

Thanks!

Where my cyclists at????

Added Cycling Power and Cadence, now in Apple Health.

Added support for Apple's Cycling Speed (for those using indoor bikes or a Peloton, this should correctly show your speed now).

Also if you prefer a speed line chart (that we used previously) instead of a bar chart, you can set this preference in Design Settings in the More tab.

(Note that Athlytic should also prompt you for permissions for these items and a few upcoming features as well, if you are not seeing Cycling Power or Cadence though etc., you may need to manually go into the Settings App, then Privacy and Security, then Health, then Athlytic and make sure these are turned on).

Also Added new Tags:

Acupuncture
Anti-Anxiety Meds
Bloating
Blood Donation
Compression Therapy
Hangover
Hard, Moderate, and Light Workouts
Headache
High Altitude
Humidifier
Itching
Late Night Snack
Mouth Tape
Party
Psychedelics
Red Light Therapy
Sleep Alone
Unfamiliar Bed
Vegan

Also Added New Workout Types:

Cool Down
Flexibility
Gymnastics
Mixed Cardio
Preparation and Recovery
Squash
Underwater Diving

Additional Features:

Target Exertion is now a much more complicated algorithm than what was used previously, and should be much more tailored to Recovery for the day.

Stress is now available on the watch as an inline Widget.

Bug Fixes:

Fixed a bug related to the Training Load chart navigating away and then back.

Fixed a bug where immediately after a workout on the Apple Watch App, Cardio Fitness might show as 0.

Fixed an issue where sometimes for some users, Sleep Stage percentages might not add up to 100%.

Fixed an issue where the sleep tab might overlap when rotating from landscape to portrait.

Fixed an issue where in the Recovery, Exertion, Sleep AW Widget, your preferred sleep tracker might not sync.

And one more thing... an app icon refresh! It's been 3 years so it was time to freshen up Athlytic's look on your homes screen.

Thanks!

This is another BIG update this time focusing on Stress!

Previously Athlytic used to just have a daily Stress Chart, now you will find:

(1) A Stress Score on the Dashboard with a time of the most recent Stress sample. The Score will be the last Stress sample that wasn't during a period of activity or a workout, since Athlytic is only looking at periods of non-activity for Stress.

(2) You can also now tap on the Dashboard Stress Card, to see a deeper examination of Stress with a Score on a Gauge, a Rating, as well as coaching related to your Current Stress. You will also see a larger Stress Chart that is selectable to see what your Stress was as specific times of day. You will also see a break down of the time and % spend in each zone during the day.

(3) All of (2) is available as well for a previous day if you tap on a day on the calendar.

(4) In Trends, you will now see a 60 day Chart of your Average Day Stress which is also selectable to see your specific Stress on a particular Day.

(5) Stress has been added to the Dashboard home screen on the watch as well.

(6) 2 new Stress complications have been added: Circular and Corner to see your current Stress level throughout the day.

(7) A home screen widget has been added to the iPhone to show your most recent Stress score.

(8) Stress charts have been redesigned to include indications of sleep and workout times.

In addition to the Stress updates...

Something I've wanted to do for a very long time but it was a technical challenge,

(1) In Trends Cardio Fitness will now show for ANY workout. Previously it was only there if there was a Cardio Fitness sample in Apple Health, but now it will calculate Cardio Fitness even if there is no sample in Apple Health.

(2) More importantly, Cardio Fitness is now sorted by workout type. It really made no sense to compare a walking workout to a running workout etc., so now Cardio Fitness will be sorted based on your most recent workout type, and you can sort it based on any other workout types you've performed within the past 60 days, or you can also sort by all workouts as it was before.

(3) The Cardio Fitness chart is now selectable as well to see your value from a specific workout.

(4) 1-3 has also been done to Heart Rate Recovery, and the chart is now selectable as well.

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Very minor update to Help and Support in Settings, from version 4.4:

This is a BIG update with some great new features:

Training Impulse

To facilitate the new features below, Athlytic will now calculate your Training Impulse (or TRIMPexp) which you can now view when you tap on a workout as well as on the watch both during and after a workout.

Training Load

In the Trends Tab under Recovery and Exertion you will now find Training Load. I always felt since I built Athlytic, that maybe the only thing missing was a way to track your fitness over time. In other words I'm doing all this training but is my fitness actually improving? While Exertion works great as far as a daily load metric, it's not as good for visualizing training load over the course of 30 days, or 6 months etc.

So I tried to take the established concepts of calculating Training Load via Training Impulse (or TRIMP) and Fitness (CTL) and Fatigue (ATL), which I think can be confusing and hard to understand, and make it a little more understandable and user-friendly. I hope you find Training Load helpful in guiding your training! A really easy way to think about it is, if you want to increase your fitness level, then the blue line should be going up over time.

Training Load Analysis (Load Ratio)

Under Training Load in Trends you can now review your Load Ratio which compares your short-term and long-term training load and gives coaching whether you are undertraining, in the sweet spot, or potentially overtraining.

Training Load Focus

Replacing what used to be just Anaerobic and Aerobic; which were only based on heart rate zones, Athlytic now uses your heart rate zones as well as Training Impulse (TRIMPexp) to calculate your Training Load Focus. Training Load Focus is now available per workout and in Trends, as well as during a workout and after on the watch app.

Additional updates:

Heart Rate Zones in Trends has been redesigned to better visualize your heart rate zones over time.

The Weekly Cardio Load Stacked and Grouped Energy charts in Trends have been redesigned and also show you the current week's zone times as well.

Target Exertion has been added to the Calendar's Exertion.

Added Ultrahuman as a sleep tracker in the More tab.

Fixed some clipping issues on iPhone Widgets.

On the watch: Added a long press with animation on watch to end a workout. This should prevent workouts from accidentally being ended! I know this has happened to me and have really enjoyed not having to worry about that any more!

Fixed an issue where an indoor workout started via the Ultra's Action button would show as outdoor.

When you tap on the ? to the right of Sleep Debt, I added some logic to explain exactly how the rolling 14 day Sleep Debt is calculated to make more clear.

A few other bug fixes and improvements.

Thanks!

Minor bug fix update:

Fixed a UI bug that might occur when navigating to the Calendar then Day View then tapping on a workout and dismissing.

Added better support for the Stress Chart for users using Voice Over.

4.3.2
Oct 14, 2023
The iPhone Day Summary and Recovery Exertion and Sleep Widgets now show Sleep Performance score instead of hours of sleep to match everywhere else in the app.

Also it's been asked many many times and although I don't agree 100% with it, I have added the ability in the More tab to adjust the Sleep Debt Threshold, the hours of sleep that is used to calculate sleep debt. This used to be hard coded to 7.5, but now can be adjusted from 5.0 hours to 12.0 hours. Adjusting your Sleep Debt Threshold will not only adjust your Sleep Debt, but also affect Target Sleep and Target Bedtime since Sleep Debt is factored into your Target Sleep (need).

Added Tempur-Pedic® Sleeptracker-AI® as a sleep tracker you can chose in the more tab (select Sleeptracker).

A few other fixes and optomizations.

4.2.3
Sep 28, 2023
Added an all new Recovery Exertion Sleep Watch Widget! (rectangular).

Added a Setting on the watch where you can remove a workout type that you don't want Athlytic to save a Cardio Fitness sample for.

The line chart for workouts has been redesigned.

Added new 14 tags! They are: CPAP, Remove Work, Dairy, Iron, Multivitamin, Family Time, Friend Time, Late Screen Time, Cold Bedroom, Warm Bedroom, Ashwagandha, Junk Food, Sugar, and Bad Weather.

Some fixes:

FINALLY found a way to remove the X button on the top left during a workout in watchOS 10!

Fixed the in-workout screen which I think Apple made vertical by default, so this should make it go back to horizontal which I think works better for workouts.

Fixed some clipping of text on Watch Widgets for users still on watchOS 9.

Fixed an issue where the Ultra's Action button might open to the past workout screen.

Fixed the Blood Oxygen and Heart Rate Watch Widgets from truncating the max value text on the Modular Ultra watch face.

Fixed (hopefully) a crash when tapping on a past workout on the watch.

Thanks!
Gary
4.2.2
Sep 21, 2023
New watch design style to match watchOS 10! Apple now prefers vertical scrolling via the digital crown (as opposed to horizontal scrolling). The home screen's background color will be the color of your Recovery, whereas the detail screens will be the color of the associated metric, e.g. Exertion's background color will match the level of Exertion, Sleep Performance etc.

The Recovery Watch Widget is now unlocked if you aren't using Athlytic Pro...sorry I mistakenly locked in when porting the ClockKit Complications to WidgetKit Widgets.

Also the Recovery Watch Circular Widget has been slightly updated.

Also from 4.2:

Big Fall Update!

The Energy Charts in the iPhone app are now tappable, i.e you can tap on them to see your Energy Burned and Consumed.

Many of the Apple Watch Complications have been updated with a refreshed design which also includes more options. For Example, the HRV Complication now also has a circular and corner design showing your current HRV and your range today. Same for the Heart Rate complication, Blood Oxygen, and Energy Complications. I encourage you just to play around with the different watch faces and experiment to see all the new variations!

Also an all new Target Sleep and Target Bed Time Complication on the watch and Widget on iPhone!

Many other bug fixes and optimizations!

Thanks!

The Dashboard should now accommodate users who have display zoom turned on.

Added a check to prevent you from being able to set, for example, HR Zone 5 min below HR Zone 4 min, which was causing crashes. The zones cannot overlap now.

On the Recovery screen your current HRV and RHR are color coded based on whether they are above or below baseline. Thanks Feez! =)

A few other minor fixes.

When version 4.0 was released, you might have asked yourself why the Recovery widget as well we the Recovery and Sleep Performance screens on the iPhone App were still horizontal bars. The reason is because I totally forgot about them! =) So they now are rings as well for uniformity.

Also users with small iPhones using larger text sizes should not see clipping on the dashboard anymore.

Also fixed a bug that might occur when you tapped on Calendar -> Day -> Workout that would prevent the Workout from being displayed.

Some other minor bug fixes and improvements.

4.0.3
Jul 25, 2023
Just a few minor updates:

Added Golf and Equestrian Sports as available workout types on the watch to start.

When you tap on Recovery, the redundant coaching that was there before (from when Recovery was the home screen) has been removed in favor of an explanation of how your Recovery was calculated (similar to what was always there if you tapped on the blue ? button on the right of Recovery.

If you have no sleep data at all, i.e. it looks like you don't wear your watch to sleep, the coaching at the top of the dashboard will not always say missing sleep.

Fixed some background color issues when using light mode.

In the Workouts and Calendar Tab, if you navigate down the navigation stack, i.e. to review your workout then tap the Workout Tab icon again, you will be taken back to the home workout screen. Thanks Feez! =)

Thanks!

Quick update just to fix an issue for users who use sleep tracking other than the Apple Watch but do select it as your preferred sleep tracker in Settings. Now it should work as it always has where Athlytic will look for any sleep data if your preferred sleep tracker (Apple Watch by default) has no sleep data.

Also for users who are using larger text sizes on their iPhone the today dashboard view should scale better now.

Thanks for the reports!
Gary

Also from 4.0:

Welcome to Athlytic 4.0!

The major part of this update features an all new Dashboard home screen for the Today tab. As I continued to build features, I thought a need became necessary to see all your most important metrics at a glance. So this new Dashboard will show you your Recovery, Sleep, Exertion, and Energy as well as your Health Metrics and your Daily Stress on one home screen. You can tap on any of the metrics to go to their respective detail screens.

The Dashboard at the top also features coaching at the top that you will find more holistic and will take account of where you are in the day. Its easier if you just try it and you'll see what I mean. =)

The Health Tab has also been removed since it's tap-able from the home screen and makes room for a new More Tab to make Settings easier to access from any other screen.

Also:

Added Stress to the Day View (tap on the calendar to see any day's Stress!).

Fixed a bug where the heart rate line chart would show strange renderings when using the Nike Run Club app.

Fixed an issue where Instagram (Facebook) implemented a rule where apps are required to have an ID to be able to share to IG....now you can share to IG stories again. Thanks Facebook! =(

Subtle UI refresh to Recovery vs Exertion Chart

Other areas in the app and widgets Recovery and Sleep are now rings as well.

Some changes to try and resolve issues with Sleep Consistency and Target Sleep when traveling between time zones.

Many more minor bug fixes and optimizations!

Thanks!
Gary

You can now tap to hide the coaching at the top of the Dashboard. It should stay hidden until the coaching changes.

Also added voice over support for the Recovery, Exertion etc. buttons on the dashboard.

Outdoor Swims should now show a map of the swim.

Added RingConn as a sleep tracker you can select in Settings.

A few other minor bug fixes and improvements.

Thanks!

Quick update to fix a few bugs:

(1) If you have the AW Ultra's Action button set up to start a workout, it should now start the correct workout type.
(2) Some UI fixes for users who use larger accessibility text sizes
(3) There will now be an alert to tell you to udpate your Apple Watch App if its not the same version as the iPhone
(4) Recovery widgets now correctly respect if you have ignore Mindfulness HRV turned on in settings.

Also from version 3.7:

Tons of new workout types on the watch!! Many have asked for additional Workout Types Supported on the watch, this update adds really too many types of new workouts to mention here. There is a new workout UI/UX, the workouts you see when you start a workout are sourced from your past workouts (only during the past 7 days since that's all Apple allows to query), if you don't have any, you'll see a default list. But you can also tap on More Workouts to see additional workout types.

It also permitted me to include a long asked for feature: support for both indoor and outdoor running and walking!

New Feature! In-Workout Exertion Monitoring! Now below Effort during a workout is an indicator of whether you are below, within, or above your Target Exertion for the day!

A new UI for choosing your Training Goal with descriptions of each.

Red Recovery has been renamed "Fatigued" instead of "Overtrained."

Recovery has been slightly tweaked, which should result in more greens and reds and less yellow. Note this change is not retroactive and will only update Recoveries going forward unless you uninstall and reinstall.

Added weekly HRV and RHR charts under Recovery on the watch.

Added Withings as a Sleep Tracker.

Better support for Always On Watch Face during a workout, however it only updates every minute. This is something I think is related to a bug in the Apple Watch I am currently exploring and trying to solve.

When you set custom heart rates zones the Weekly Cardio Load chart in Trends will update to show the new zone numbers.

Some other minor bug fixes and optimizations.

Thanks!
