About GA Guide
The book describes the rules, procedures, regulations and practices of the General Assembly which are scattered among various United Nations documents in a simple, easily understandable manner. In her foreword, President of the Swiss Confederation Doris Leuthard, expresses her hopes that the handbook would become a useful tool for all those working with the General Assembly and would contribute to a smooth and efficient functioning of the General Assembly as one of the main UN organs, in order for the UN to achieve its goals.

Last updated on Sep 26, 2018
Old Versions
The content was updated in 2017 and reflects changes in rules, procedures and available tools decided on up to the end of the 71st General Assembly (September 2017). They concern three areas in particular. First, a whole array of new or enhanced online tools have been put at the disposition of Member States (delegate, PaperSmart, eMeets, eSponsorhip and others). Secondly, the guidelines and requirements to the President of the General Assembly and his Office have been strengthened and refined. A Code of Ethics is established. Thirdly, the implementation process of the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (High-Level Political Forum) is taken into account. Most of the information in the GA Handbook comes from official UN guidelines and documents. The GA Guide is not a legal document. The “Rules of Procedure of the General Assembly” remain the sole definitive source on how the GA is to conduct its business.
This update also includes various bug fixes and performance improvements. Please note that users will have to set‐up new bookmarks (the previously saved bookmarks will no longer be available).
