About Gilbertus
Gilbertus is an augmented reality app which displays 3D scans of a series of French monumental sculpture. It offers a three-dimensional and immersive preview of an artwork while being at a distant place. It is designed as the virtual reinterpretation of the Museum of Compared Sculpture initiated by the renown French architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc. The Museum’s collection, made of plaster copies of numerous medieval French sculptures is today exhibited at the Gallery of Casts at the Cité de l’architecture in Paris.
This app is the result of an experiment undertaken as part of the doctoral research of Mete Kutlu in collaboration with the developer Theuns Botha. The experiment sought to combine augmented reality and photogrammetry to innovate in digital scenography, mediation and humanities.
As part of a series of experiments baptised as Dream Pixels, it was realised with the support of Cristiana Mazzoni, senior expert at Comet Lab and director of AUSser research lab at the Paris-Belleville School of Architecture.
