About MyFoodSpace

My Food Space is here to help you control your cravings and impulses to pick, overeat or binge.

This handy app helps you build time from the impulse to eat and the action of eating. The app will help you through the gentle stages of your journey, monitor progress and develop your skills and understanding as to why you have the impulse that can lead to overeating. This App helps you to a future of potency and wellbeing where food doesn't rule, you do.

This App helps you pause between the impulse to eat and the action of eating. You gradually build up that time lapse. It is important to know that you can still have the food; the aim is to create a gap in which to stop and think, maybe use the challenges to divert your attention, or to discover what is going on for you, until eventually you find you no longer want that food. You will find encouragement and advice as you progress through the stages. Kathy Leach's book: "The Overweight Mind and Body" has a chapter dedicated to the App.

WHY USE THE APP
Your impulse to eat extra food and maintain your larger size against your will is driven by unconscious psychological issues. If you have dieted many times and lost weight and regained that weight and possibly more besides, then it is not that you lack will power or knowledge of what to do, it is likely due to unconscious processes that need to be brought into consciousness in order for you to understand what that food is "doing for you" and then to make changes.
The App is here to help you understand the urge to eat by pausing between that impulse and the action of eating. The idea is that you pause, and then eat the food if you want to.

HOW CAN THE APP HELP ME
It would be very easy to list some things that you could try but I am not convinced that any would be more helpful than this: Start to put a little space between the impulse to eat and the action of eating. As you build up the time lapse you will have more time to reflect on what is happening and thereby make a choice. Eat or don't eat right now. It is your choice and either choice is fine. The important thing is that you make that space to stop and think.
I invite you to start thinking about what your impulses mean. You will see that I invite "thinking". Impulses come from a reactive, non-thinking place. Once we start thinking from an adult place we open up a variety of understandings and options.

LEARNING IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS
The major messages in this App are to learn and understand why extra food is playing a big part in your life and to make that extra food less important by giving yourself time to think about whether you want it or not in the very moment of reaching for that food.
As you progress through the stages the information provided becomes more in-depth and you will become more and more aware of why you are eating extra food.
There is no such thing as failure. It is just that some days we may not be able to do as much to help ourselves as others. So never think you have failed if you have an off day or can't reach your previous goal. If we think "fail" we easily move to the idea "I have blown it and might as well give up". That is not at all helpful!
The answer is simple - Just resume when you are ready.
Congratulate yourself each time you do something different to help yourself between the impulse to eat, the need for food and the action of eating.
