About SickleBuddy

SickleBuddy is an App for children to learn and live with sickle cell disease.

Sickle Cell Disease is a red blood cell illness that some people are born with. Young people may need some help to understand sickle cell disease and look after themselves.

SickleBuddy is an App for children and adolescents with sickle cell disease to help them learn about their condition. This App was made by talking to them and finding out how it should be designed. The App has different sections with pictures that make it easy for young people to understand.

As a start, the Facts section gives information about sickle cell disease, and how it affects children and adolescents including pain and other problems.

There is a section for keeping Healthy with Tips about medicines and other things doctors and nurses usually tell young people with sickle cell disease to do.

Another section has Ideas about things that can be done to keep Healthy such as eating well, and taking it easy when worried or unhappy.

The App also has a Quiz to help make it easier to remember the important things about sickle cell disease that have been learnt.
