About Student Pandemic Experience
This app is used for a research study at Western University, Canada. You must be a first-year undergraduate student at Western University to participate in the study.
This app integrates with the Apple Health app only to read data relevant to nutrition and exercise. The study is investigating the relationships between these items, mental health, and the COVID-19 pandemic.
The COVID-19 pandemic is a public health emergency that poses considerable challenges for the mental health and psychological well-being of young adults – and may impact the first-year student experience. Students may experience worries of primary infection risk, alongside secondary effects of social isolation and reduced in-person engagement, which may have significant and sustained impact on student mental health. As such, the aim of this research is to identify risk and protective factors that prospectively predict mental health outcomes among first-year students on campus using a mobile surveillance system. The goal of this study is to aid in devising strategies to support vulnerable student groups and mitigate the adverse effects of COVID-19 and other future pandemics, while enhancing student well-being throughout their time in university.
